Oh? Is he referring to liz? Did she have a painful death in her previous life?

The reason i don't like Drake much (as a love interest for Liz), is because he finds Liz interesting and cute, it's no longer boring--he might feel a little bit of affection in his on way, but he doesn't tries to understand her even if he explains and helps in certain ways, he doesn't tries to get to get to know her and meet her half way. Liz is human and she understands and realizes how ghosts are and why they are like that, but she also sees the good in them and helps by understanding. But a human cannot think or feel like a ghost. Yet a ghost is able to learn to think and feel like a human.
That's where Damon comes in, he is slow and confused but he also observes and learns to understand Liz. Even the Racoon has said "he has become more human". Drake has lived in human society but he still holds prejudice towards humans, and he gives this feeling of "it's too bothersome to understand but it's fun so I'll go along".

I cried so much that I've started to sob like a kid, I swear to God. He was so little, and just wanted a hug... Damn, that caught me off guard. And Damon, on the end, is he talking about Liz? Was her previous life/death painful? I'm so curious~~

I remember now this scene and it's also one of the reasons I like this before and still now. 🥺 As for ML's answer to FL, I vaguely remembered it why he answered like that too~
